Teletherapy is often a great alternative for in person counseling. This is especially true if you are a caregiver, have a physical disability that makes travel difficult, live in a remote part of Washington, or wish to avoid long commute times.
All sessions with New Perceptions Counseling, PLLC are via teletherapy. Please note that all participants must be residents of Washington State at the time of their session.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO PRIOR TO YOUR FIRST SESSION
Below are directions on what you need to do to get ready for your teletherapy session.
1. For our sessions, we use Zoom for Healthcare Professionals which is a HIPAA compliant telehealth application and works great. On the morning of your appointment, we’ll send you an email that has a link you click from your computer, phone, or tablet to start your online therapy session.
2. If you are doing your session from a computer, all you do is click the link contained in the email sent to you at the time your session is scheduled to start. The rest of the prompts are to connect to computer audio and video. Your computer must have a microphone and a camera.
3. If you are doing your session from a smart phone or tablet, prior to your first session, do a one-time download of the Zoom (for IOS or Android) app from either the app store or the Google Play store. Then just as you would when joining from a computer (mentioned above), click the link contained in the email sent to you that morning.
4. Lastly, you will find several forms under “Forms” on the “Contact” page that need to be completed and sent via email or, postal mail service to your therapist prior to your first session.
COMMON QUESTIONS YOU MAY FIND HELPFUL
Q. Is telehealth private?
Just like face-to-face appointments, your telehealth visit will be private and confidential.
Q. Does health insurance cover teletherapy?
Most insurance companies do cover teletherapy. Please check with your insurance to find out if they are offering teletherapy coverage. It is a good time to also check to see if your therapist is in network with your insurance plan and if not, find out if you have out-of-network benefits.
Q. Where is the best place to do a video session?
Try to choose a place that is private and away from household members, coworkers, pets, and other potential distractions. Many people met while sitting in their car during and find that it works quite well. It is helpful to be somewhere that is well-lit and relatively quiet (using headphones helps, as does shutting doors and/or windows).
When doing therapy online for the first time we think you will soon discover what most folks do: It feels a little weird at the beginning of your first session, but you soon settle into it, perhaps similarly to when you first started in-person therapy.
If you have any other question: On the Contact page, you will find the option of booking a 30-minute free consultation. This can be very helpful in getting any other questions you may have answered.
